I meant to post yesterday, the first of February, to make this more...I don't know...momentous? But then I realized: this is just a blog for myself and an occasional friend or stranger that might wonder in, so why am I making it such a big deal?

A month after the first of the new year and I'm still pondering on what my 'New Year's resolutions' should/could/would be. I have many things I would like to work on or accomplish, but I feel that if I put them all on a list and say "I WILL make these things happen this year!" that I am setting myself up for a HUGE disappointment. Plus, now that I'm over 50, I have come to realize that life is too short for disappointment (especially disappointment I cause myself.). So I've decided to work on 3 key areas:

Health

Relationships

Writing

The health one is on most everybody's list, whether it's to lose weight, exercise more, get a complete physical, etc. So this one is basically the same, with the plan being to be healthier by the end of 2024 in WHATEVER capacity that is! I do have specific goals, but even if I only reach 1 of them, I'll feel like it's a win in this category.

The relationship one...that's harder to explain. Do you every feel like you have acquaintances rather than friends? Or maybe, to use my Mom's way of explaining, do you ever feel like you have a lot more 'friends of circumstance' than you do of 'life friends'? I do. And at my age I wonder if I'll ever have a true 'life friend' that will be there no matter the circumstance. (And no, Mary, you don't count...you're blood and are kind of stuck with me like it or not...)

The writing one is pretty self-explanatory. I have a children's book in the illustration process right now, and I want to get my first of 3 novels edited, cover art done, and a plan for publishing before the end of the year - and that's a TALL order. My usual beta-reader (Anna) is so busy with her MRI job that she just doesn't have the time or energy. So after I do the first round of edits, I'll probably load it into a program to double check things for me. I have also been working on other children's books, want to put together a cookbook, and maybe just an Erma Bombeck-esk type book. We. Shall. See.

So what have YOU put on your list of things to accomplish this year? Even if it's just ONE thing that you'd like to accomplish - paint a room, plant a garden, cook more, lose 15 pounds, run a 5K, start studying another language - try and do it! Go for it! The worst that could happen is you don't succeed; but even worse would be not even trying. I REALLY wish I thought that when I was younger...

There's a saying that I saw around a LOT during 2020/2021, and I liked it so much that I got a big rock and wrote it on it, decorated the rock, sealed it, and now it sits on my foyer table where I see it every day. The saying? "Day 1 or one day; you decide."

Let's make this our Day 1 and let's knock 2024 on it's butt! Who's with me?
